Monday Update 5/17

After a year of feeling like life was kicking me directly in the teeth, you think I would have gotten used to it, huh? Well, after a crazy month we’re back at it again. Here’s a quick update:

Whatcha watching: Star Wars: The Bad Batch

Even as a big Star Wars fan, I was hesitant to pick up a new TV show. Several friends of mine convinced me otherwise (mostly by talking about it nonstop) and I’m glad they did. I loved The Clone Wars and from what I’ve seen of the 3 episodes of ST:TBB so far, it is a worthy edition to the universe.

Whatcha reading: The Shadow Rising (book 4 in The Wheel of Time series)

As part of an effort to read more books more consistently, I picked up Robert Jordan’s (and later, Brandon Sanderson’s) famed series. There’s a lot to get through, so they kind of act as my ‘background books.’ I can pick them up and go through a few chapters at any moment, but pause on occasion to go through shorter books. So far, the series is as wide and sprawling as its setting but an enjoyable journey nontheless.

Whatcha listening to: OK Orchestra by AJR

This whole album is honestly a post-pandemic Mood. I think the first time I heard the line “And I don’t wanna cry no more//so I set my bar real low” I sat up in my car because that was it. The burnout from an entire year+ of insanity condensed into one line. Plus, it’s just an enjoyable listen. Honestly, I’ve been a fan of theirs since they used a Spongebob voiceline in “I’m Ready.”

Whatcha working on: Draft 3 (the infinite)

I wrote (technically rewrote) an entire book during the pandemic somehow. It seemed like the hardest thing in the world at the time but now I think it might be harder to try and figure out what to do with it. At the very least I’ve been slowly making my way through rewrites, trying to see things objectively and at least have the the story make sense. When I tire of trying to wrestle the puzzle pieces of manuscript around, I take a break to work on newer projects that don’t have to be as polished. It’s slow going but it is going, something I have to remind myself to be thankful for.
