The Long-Awaited Kitten Post

It’s a longstanding (and unspoken) rule of blogging that if you happen to have pets you obviously farm them for content. I am not one to disagree with such a lauded tradition, so here is the newest addition of our family, Pippin.

We picked her up last month and cycled through several proposed names, including Quiet (from Metal Gear Solid V) on account of her silence during our drive home. That didn’t last. Shortly after we turned in for bed that first night, she started up a racket reminiscent of Pippin Took’s stealth run in the mines of Moria. (Here’s some footage of her discovering my rock collection at 4am.) She has remained at such volume ever since. Thus Pippin she remains.

Featured: Pippin taking a nap on a washcloth I was trying to wipe up a spill with.

Our house had no pets at all for the last year and a half and while the lack of expense and responsibility was probably a good thing (life got pretty hectic in 2025) my husband and I are both thrilled to have a Creature roaming the halls and adding much joy to our lives. I will try to restrain myself from posting cat photos here with wild abandon (I consider pet photos to be similar to those of babies: cute for those directly involved, uninteresting to strangers, painful to those in between) but as Pippin loves involving herself in whatever we’re doing, you may catch a stray photo of her now and again on the blog.
